Run Time: 1 hour 35 minutes

Cast: Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Mithila Palkar, Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Kanwaljeet, Manav Gohil

Tribhanga, directorial debut of Renuka Sahaney, and a leading star cast of amazing actors packs a tremendous story of three generation of women whose rebel against the society’s norms causes their loved ones to suffer.

It is a story of flawed but brilliant women whose right but ahead of the time choices affected their personal bonds and the lives of those around her.

Nayantara Apte (Tanvi Azmi) is a brilliant writer who is in the process of writing her autobiography. Right in the middle of interview she had a brain stroke.

Milan (Kunaal Roy Kapoor) who is covering her autobiography, rushes her to the hospital.

Viewers are then introduced to her daughter, Anuradha Apte (Kajol), a Padmashree Oddisi dance winner and a Bollywood star.

She shares an estranged bond with her mother, referring to her as Nayan instead of Ayi.

Anuradha’s bond with her daughter Masha (Mithila Palkar) seems very loving at first.

When all gathers in the hospital, all the deep buried emotions surface again.

Story is told in flashbacks, Nayantara is a brilliant writer whose dedication to work is commendable.

However, the passion of a woman towards her work is only praised when she balances her family life like superwoman, else she would be deemed as selfish. Same is the case with Nayatara.

Although her husband fell in love with her because of her writing, he is not able to take up a stand against his mother, who like a typical mother-in-law is constantly taunting her successful but non-domestic daughter in law.

Not the one to be daunted, Nayantara takes a stand and leaves with her children Anuradha and Robindro (Vaibhav Tatwawaadi) in search of a new life.

Being a single responsible parent, she asks for her rights which then seem to everyone ahead of its time.

What this movie showcases beautifully is the consequences that her children have to go through because of the right choices that she has to take for herself.

More often than not this is what happen even today, whenever a woman takes up a stand for herself, her closed ones are punished for her bold choices.

The relation between Nayantara and her children also becomes estranged because of this.

However like every other human being Nayantara is also flawed, something that results in scarring of Anuradha for life.

Unable to forgive her mother, she breaks all her ties with her mother.

As the bond between sister and brother is so strong, he follows the same.

A beautiful Women centric movie

Ironically the resemblance between mother and daughter is too alike. Anuradha just like her mother is a strong-minded woman who is capable of taking her own decisions.

But her protectiveness towards her daughter Masha is very much so as never to repeat the same mistakes of her mother.

Masha is as different as possible from the two ladies of her life.

The ultimate tragedy brings out all the raw emotions of the estranged but connected family.

Anuradha after a confrontation with her daughter realizes that she just like her mother is a flawed human being who did her best to protect her daughter.

She eventually forgives her mother.

Movie shows us some truly beautiful bonds, brother sister bond, the bond between Nayan and Milan, Masha’s relation with her mother and grandmother.

Even the bond between Anuradha and the men in her mother’s life is very intriguing. While one left her scarred for life, other gives her the love and shelter that she always wished for.

Performances are amazing.

Tanvi Azmi proving again what a star she is.

Mithila could have used a little more screen presence but leaves a mark nonetheless.

Kunaal Roy Kapoor surprises and leaves you wanting to see more of his story.

But the star of the story is none other than Kajol, you laugh with her, you cry with her. Her wittiness is on point and so are her emotions.

All in all, this one is one of those rare gems of a movie that Bollywood main stream cinema could really use.

Go watch it now, this one deserves all your attention.
