Indian Premier League 2025: Sanju Samson becomes the third batsman to retire out after Devon Conway and Tilak Verma

Indian Premier League 2025 has introduced a new policy of retired out batters, where a batsman on the field can leave his innings in case of any internal team decision or getting injured accidentally.

In today’s match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals, Sanju Samson was retired out in the middle of his innings as he insisted on having pain in his shoulder.

The commentators pointed out that Sanju Samson must have pulled a muscle while trying to swing his bat at full speed.

Sanju Samson was in full form while batting today against Delhi Capitals while chasing a score of 189 runs.

Sanju Samson left the field after making 31 runs in just 19 balls, after which all the batters of RR started getting out.

Nitish Rana and Yasasvi Jaiswal both made 50+ runs, which made it possible for the Rajasthan Royals to play the super over against DC.

However, Delhi Capitals confirmed their victory by making 13 runs in the super over while RR struggled with two wickets being taken in that over.

The topic of match fixing has always been controversial in IPL, and with the introduction of this retired-out advantage, the chances seem higher than ever.

Mumbai Indians were seen taking this leverage where they retired out Tilak Verma without any relevant reason in the middle of the match.

Tilak Verma was batting with 25 runs in 23 balls against Lucknow Super Giants when he was called outside the field by the MI management.

On being asked about the reason for his retired-out, Tilak Verma gave a vague reason, saying that he takes the decisions of the management in a positive light and is comfortable playing whenever they need him.

This can also be seen as a major intervention in the game, so that the opposition gets the upper hand due to match fixing taking place.

A similar thing happened when Chennai Super Kings were playing against Punjab Kings, and Devon Conway was forced to retire out toward the end of the game.

With a few balls left in the match, Conway, who was a set batsman, was retired out when he had already made 69 runs in 49 balls.

This policy of retired out is very likely to be used as a method of match fixing in IPL 2025, with three instances already in hand to make sure the opposition team takes the victory.

IPL 2025 is solidifying the match fixing accusations by allowing such policies to be used in the matches, along with the impact player rule.
